What We Use to Finish Custom Work

Over the years, we have worked with a lot of different products. Each had it’s own strengths and weaknesses, but we managed to narrow it down to a few that deliver exceptional results every time! If you’re getting started on your wood working journey or are looking to bring a new product in, here are a few we strongly recommend:   

Epoxy

TotalBoat Epoxy has many great epoxy resin kits and products to choose from! Our favorites are the 5:1 Traditional Epoxy Kit, Crystal Clear Hardener, and Thickset Epoxy Kit. All components can be purchased in a kit so you receive all the needed tools, or you can buy components individually to refill a certain part. We love their product and have used it on everything from stabilizing soft/punky wood to pouring river tables! They also offer outstanding customer service and product support, so you have a great resource for any questions that come up!

Pigments

Black Diamond Pigments has every color under the sun… and then some. We find any pigment we need to mix our customer’s dream color and the quality is great! A little pigment goes a long way, and the colors are rich and vibrant every time. We enjoy being able to offer so many custom color options! (And we can’t wait for an excuse to order in some of their Glow In the Dark Pigments!)

Finishes

Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C and Gemini GemCoat Pre-Catalyzed Satin Lacquer are the two finishes we offer in our custom shop. We offer both so our customers can choose what they feel is best for their projects! Rubio Monocoat’s oil finish is a natural oil that soaks into the wood to seal it, leaving a beautiful, rich matte finish. This one requires a little different upkeep, but Rubio offers great and affordable care products for their finish! The Gemini GemCoat Satin Lacquer Finish is our most popular finish on all projects from Dining Tables to Vanity Tops. The clear coat pulls out all the colors and character of every wood type and seals the wood with a nice satin sheen.
