What is an ideal dining table size?

What is an ideal dining table size?

A question we hear a lot is “What size dining table do I need?” It is a great question and is, luckily, an easy one to answer! When planning your live edge or solid wood table top, you want to consider a couple things:

  • What is the size of your Dining Room?
  • How many people would you like to be able to sit around the table at once?
  • What shape do you want your table to be?

After you’ve got an idea on these answers, you can look to average dining table sizes to start the search! We’ve included a breakdown of average rectangle and round dining table sizes below. Keep in mind, these are just averages and you can always adjust up or down depending on your preference.

Average Rectangular Table Top Sizes

  • 2-4 people: 30” Wide x 36” Long
  • 4-6 people: 30” Wide x 48” Long
  • 6-8 people: 42” Wide x 84” Long
  • 10-12 people: 42” Wide x 120” Long

Average Round Table Top Sizes

  • 2-4 people: 30” Diameter
  • 4 people: 36” Diameter
  • 6 people: 54” Diameter
  • 8 people: 60” Diameter
  • 10 people: 84” Diameter
  • 12 people: 96” Diameter
